MARVEL’S AGENT CARTER – “A Little Song and Dance” – Peggy desperately tries to save Dr. Wilkes with a dangerous plan to stop Whitney Frost. But Thompson makes a surprising move that could destroy them all, on “Marvel’s Agent Carter,” TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Byron Cohen) HAYLEY ATWELL, ENVER GJOKAJ

There are spoilers in this review. Duh.

Okay so here’s the reality of the situation: the musical is completely unnecessary. It is a weird way to start out this episode, the tone is very different, and it also highlights the most shallow part of the show. The love triangle is low on the list of priorities of the show most of the time, so having it be featured in this weird little dance number was odd to me. That being said, I LOVE MUSICALS. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I loved seeing this period piece dance, I loved the costumes, I loved the singing, I loved seeing Angie again. So it was a mixed bag. A cute idea, but kind of a weird one. Previously on Agent Carter, Jarvis tried to shoot Whitney dead, but it didn’t take. This is in revenge for her shooting his wife and them no longer being able to have children because of it. Wilkes decided to team up purposely with Whitney to try and figure out this Zero Matter nonsense they’re both dragged into. Jack finally figured out his mentor Kurtwood was evil and turned against him to join Team Awesome. While still being a snarky jerkface.

So Sousa, Jack, and the scientist guy (I’m sorry I forgot his name) were stuck out there in the desert when Peggy and Jarvis drove off together. They get confronted with some of their own people, but those dudes are really sent by Kurtwood to kill the three of them. Instead Jack manages to persuade them that they need them alive and that he’s actually still working with his mentor, so they get back safely. Peggy has a weird fever dream where she’s in a musical and sees Angie, and Angie asks her who she wants to choose between, Wilkes and Sousa. Sousa’s looking the best considering he dances like a dream and sings like a dream too. She wakes up and she and Jarvis manage to actually break out of the back of the van they’re in. NICE. Unfortunately they’re now stuck in the desert and could very well die out there. They have a very vicious fight that stings. The kind of fight that only best friends can have because you throw your absolute worst insults at each other, and it hurts more than anything, but you’re able to come back from it because you love each other. He snarks everyone around her ends up dead, she viciously points out that he gets to go back to his idyllic home after his “adventures” with her, and he does tell her about Ana. That seems to settle their dispute with apologies on both sides.

People do come looking for them, but of course they manage to fight them off no problem. The team flip Kurtwood by Jack saying they’re going to use the gamma weapon thing against Whitney, thus bringing her down from power. This is after Peggy just stomps into his office and punches him a bunch, that was hilarious. Jack plays a few angles by telling Whitney he’s turning on Kurtwood (Vernon’s his name but I like saying Kurtwood) and wants his position on the council. Meanwhile Wilkes knows that he’s really messed up, and he’s starting to come apart at the seams. It looks like there’s no good ending in sight for him. Poor guy. He seems to want to do something good with what he has left. Jack brings Kurtwood as planned, but they aren’t setting off the bomb like he wanted them to.

He goes outside and screams at them, but Peggy’s like yo we’re not killing all of them. Everyone has guns pulled on each other. PEGGY YOU HAVE DEFINITELY KILLED PEOPLE BEFORE? Like do not pretend you weren’t in WWII. Or pretend that Cap and his people never gunned down the enemy. Like you’re from war time, what is all this WE NEVER DIRTY OUR HANDS bullshit? I think it’s that they’re “helpless” and definitely about Wilkes, but still. Her moral superiority is starting to grate on me. Sorry to criticize you, Peg, you know how much I love you. But the finale is about to come with a Mexican stand off, with Jack and Peggy holding guns on each other. I hate the fact I’m on Team Jack, what the fuck has the world come to. But they might not need to do something as Wilkes has gotten out and goes looking for Whitney. CREEPY. This was a good episode overall. Kind of messier than the last one, but the intense fight with Peggy and Jarvis was a highlight, if really painful to listen to. NEXT WEEK IS THE FINALE NOOOO I AM NOT READY. 😦
