There are spoilers in this review. Duh.

Outside of that last shot, this really was a strong episode. I enjoyed the Earth-2 storyline immensely, and it proves that the show can take on these types of difficult things and make them work. I remember when they first introduced time travel, I was like ‘how will this work!’ It could easily go poorly. Wandering into alternate universes could go poorly too, if written badly. This is not the case. The Flash is a really solid show. I always want to give it credit for that. Previously on The Flash, Barry decided to go over to Earth-2 with Cisco and Wells to see if he could help save Jesse and stop Zoom. He took the place of his Earth-2 counterpart, watched Joe die, killed by Caitlin Snow’s evil self Killer Frost, and then got captured by Zoom. So Barry’s taken. Uh oh! Now it’s up to the others to save him. I’m curious about why Wells didn’t discuss how their counterparts have always been evil in his world. Cisco, Caitlin, and Ronnie! I guess he’s just very good at not talking about differences so it won’t mess up the timelines.

Barry’s trapped by Zoom in this odd type of walled cage that he can’t vibrate his way out of. Only Zoom seems capable of going in and out. He tries to communicate with the third prisoner there, and convinces Jesse to have more hope and help him. They do manage to figure out that the prisoner’s tapping is a sign, and he taps out Jay. Now I already suspected that Hunter Zolomon was probably going to be Zoom, and as soon as Jay said that was his Earth-1 counterpart, I went yeeeep. I was still holding out hope for Earth-2 Barry, but we’ve already seen him. He’s a weakling. So here we go. Sweet tempered Barry is kind of annoying, honestly. Like how did he become so weak willed? Barry would have become that if he didn’t have Joe and Iris? Hmmm. But he does have Iris at least. I’m not sure what she finds attractive about him, outside of his sharp mind. He reunites with her and agrees to go with them to find Killer Frost. Cisco is convinced that he can persuade Caitlin to help them, since Zoom killed Ronnie and she loved Ronnie. At first she refuses, but eventually she does give in.

They make it to Zoom’s hidden area, and she makes a little snow slide for them to get up into it. Wells and Jesse are finally reunited and it is completely adorable and heart wrenching, and I was so happy for them both. It doesn’t look like they’ll be able to get Barry out, but his other self convinces him to believe in himself and he can do it. That works … somehow. Alright. lol. I do like the idea of him deriving strength from himself though, that’s nice. Zoom appears, implying that Caitlin did this for him, but she turns against him when he plans on killing Jesse in front of her father. Barry promises the other prisoner he’ll be back for him. We have yet to see that guy’s face. I know a lot of people are speculating. I like the idea of Eddie, but I don’t know if the actor was around for it. His helmet looked a lot like Diggle’s, didn’t it? That’s the real question now since we pretty much know who Zoom is. I know they haven’t officially said it, but all we comic fans are sure, and I’d be shocked if the show went any other way.

On Earth-1 Jay tries to be the Flash and Caitlin keeps giving him new Velocity drugs. I already suspected he was connected to Zoom, but the Velocity drugs definitely seem like a good direction of where this was headed. Or why it might happen/the connection. He does eventually manage to get it together to be the hero, AND he helps them hold open the last portal/irregularity. So the team manages to get back at the very last second, with Zoom chasing behind them. They close the portal … except Jay is right by it and gets stabbed through the chest and pulled back onto Earth-2. Ouch. There’s no way of going back that we know of yet. Poor Caitlin. She cannot cut a break. Two dead Ronnies (three on Earth-2) and her new boyfriend was axed too. It was so ridiculous for Jay to just stand there with his back to the portal. What in the world would you be thinking. Siiiiigh. Not genre savvy. That’s how you get stabbed through the chest.

This was a good episode! I enjoyed Earth-2 a lot. I’d love to see more alternate realities in the future, and I know Legends of Tomorrow will be doing that. I hope that Harrison and Jesse will be around to stay. I like her too! I’d like her to stick around. The preview for next week had Killer Shark and I’m like uhhh tonal shift? Really intense there.
